Job Responsibilities
The Senior Mining Engineer will be responsible for mining operations, production planning, resource use and site safety.
Main duties include:
- Study mineral deposits and check if resources can be mined
- Work with geologists to carry out surveys and assess mineral deposits
- Select suitable mining and ore extraction methods
- Consider mine depth, overburden, ground conditions and other site factors
- Review and improve the mineral recovery process
- Work with geologists, metallurgists and other engineers on mining systems and equipment
- Support the planning of mine infrastructure, including access roads, water and power systems
- Prepare project and operating cost estimates
- Monitor and control mining expenditure
- Support planning for new or existing mine investments
- Review environmental, waste, chemical and other risks related to mining operations
- Plan and coordinate manpower, equipment and supplies
- Prepare monthly and yearly mining production reports
- Support company Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) programs
- Monitor site activities and identify unsafe work practices
- Investigate incidents and provide recommendations
- Make sure contractors follow company HSE rules and safety procedures
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
- Minimum 8 years of experience in mining engineering
- Experience in mine operations
- Experience working with different types of mining operations
- Previous experience with a mining company is mandatory
- Good knowledge of mining production, equipment and resource planning
- Understanding of mine safety and HSE requirements
- Ability to work with geologists, metallurgists, engineers and contractors
- Good reporting and project planning skills
